    Description

    Vintage, Authentic, Early "Pee Wee Reese" Baseball Glove;
    The Geo. Worthington Co. of Cleveland Ohio; circa 1940;
    Two Separate "Webs"
    Up for your consideration is this early cowhide (leather) baseball glove. Note that the
    2 webs are separated
    - and not connected by a bridge. Also
    note the fingers are not attached to one another
    - like on the later models. The metal button has 5 stars and 2 olive branches on it (see close-up). The padding for the heel of the hand is darkened and shows age-wear - some cracks (see close-up).This was used and loved. It measures 10 inches in width, 8.5 inches 'height' and 1.5 inches in depth at the padded area. The leather stitching on the bottom and the eyelets are all in great condition. The leather is still supple.
    In the palm, the impressed 'signature' reads:
    Pee Wee Reese
    MODEL
    "Ju____r"
    Geo. Worthington Co.
    Cleveland Ohio
    1829
    [I have included a picture of the Geo. Worthington Co. in Cleveland, Ohio which was founded in 1829 as a hardware store because George (at age 16) didn't feel the workers who were building the Erie Canal (in Cleveland) had the right tools to work with.]
    I can't read all the letters in quotation marks - could it read JUNIOR??
    This is a five finger glove to be worn on the left hand.
    In the background of the pictures - is a copy of a photo of Pee Wee Reese. Pee Wee played for the Dodgers from 1940-1957. In my research I found this glove might be from the mid 40s - or maybe earlier.
    This glove is
    definitely a piece of Antique Americana.
    (Note: it's only a 7-day auction.)
