Franz Joseph Austrian Emperor Commemorative Stein, hinged pewter lid with raised designThis is vintage West German stoneware from 1960s-1970s.

This intricate beer stein is hand-painted with colors of cobalt and sea green. The stein will hold 1/4-liter.
The stoneware mug has an ornate pewter hinged lid.
The base features two Austro-Hungarian ducat medallions, one on each side of the stein.
The first medallion on one side includes the image of Franz Joseph of Austria and the l
ettering:
FRANZ· JOS· I·D·G· AUSTRIALE IMPERATOR.
Translation:
Franz Joseph I, by the grace of God, Austrian Emperor.
The second medallion on the other side includes the image of the 1780 Crest of Austria.
Body has raised curlicue and geometric designs and a raised gargoyle-like smiling face.
The inside of the lid is marked with "DBGM" and "66" and the bottom of the stein is marked with "20021/4" and “Original King 2.”
No chips or cracks. Both silver-colored medallions on body and pottery are in excellent condition: no blemishes, chips, degradation of color. Pewter lid is functional. Lovely collectable bier stein. The perfect gift for the beer lover in your life!
