Here is a vintage 1970's era Rawlings Mickey Mantle Model OT42FR baseball mitt or glove for a left handed thrower, meaning it fits on the right hand. The OT42FR model number is rare to find and I can't find it in the Rawlings catalog info that I have. It measures 11 1/4" long through the pocket. Nice soft leather inside and out. Made in Japan. Deep Well Pocket by web, Hinged Pad in heel and The Finest in the Field on the pinky finger. 100% Nylon Sewn and Pat. No. 2629096 and 2,625,686. Red Rawlings patch on the backstrap with Japan on it. The glove is probably a youth size glove (high school) but my adult hand fits in it OK. There weren't very many Mantle endorsed first baseman mitts made as he only went to 1B later in his career when his knees got so bad he couldn't play outfield very well.Overall the mitt is really in nice condition. But there is some writing on the mitt to note. There is a faint name written in red on the back of the thumb and also some lighter black marking in the same area. On the interior leather where the hand goes there is some faint red writing and a darker 8.00 written there. That's not what I paid for this mitt. lol The rest of the mitt is very nice. Lacing is intact and I assume original. The interior leather is soft but a little darkened from use. Soft exterior leather and the mitt is broken in.
Mickey Mantle of course played his entire career from 1951-1971 with the New York Yankees and is a member of the MBL Hall of Fame. He won the American League Triple Crown in 1956 (highest average, most homers and RBI's) and was on 6 Yankees World Series teams.
I have other gloves and mitts on eBay ending now and I like to combine shipping whenever possible. If you win more than one glove you'll have to pay the grand total for shipping. But I'll refund you the difference back on the price of combined shipping. Or I'll send out an invoice if possible.
