Description
Here is a vintage1930's era kids Dodger model split finger baseball glove with a double tunnel web. The glove has the name JOE PALOOKA stamped in cursive to the right of the other stamping on the front of the mitt. The model number is hard to make it out. It looks like maybe CF01 OR CFO or CEO or something similar to those. I couldn't find a comparable glove to try to compare model numbers. The glove was made in the USA by DODGER. The DODGER logo on the front of the glove and the bronze button on the backs is in the cursive logo similar to the Los Angeles Dodgers logo, but I don't know if the Dodgers had anything to do with the glove. This glove might have been an item a kid could get through the comic book advertising or something. But Joe Palooka was a comic book hero in the 1930's who also got a American comic strip about a heavyweight boxing Champion , created by cartoonist Ham Fisher. The strip debuted on April 19, 1930 and peaked at being carried by 900 newspapers at one time and ran until 1984.
This is a very unusual glove maker as already noted. The leather is still soft and flexible. The interior leather is thinner and softer. Overall a nice vintage glove. It's made for a youth but I can kindo of fit my smaller adult hand part way into it. The glove measures 8" long through the palm and measures 8.75" in width measuring across. Stamping on the glove I can mostly make out are: Hand Formed Pocket, Dodger, Made in USA, the model number and Joe Palooka.
Vintage used kids baseball glove has a little staining on front pinky finger and discoloration here and there from the years of being used and laying around. But the glove is in pretty nice condition overall for its age. Soft interior leather and the exterior leather is also soft and flexible. Some of the stamping is light. See the pics and use the enlarger function for more details.
I have other gloves and mitts on eBay ending now and I like to combine shipping whenever possible. If you win more than one glove you'll have to pay the grand total for shipping. But I'll refund you the difference back on the price of combined shipping. Or I'll send out an invoice if possible.
