Antique RARE 1700's Westerwald German Salt-Glazed Stoneware Sgraffito Stein Pewter Lid Jug, Tankard 2-LiterFor your consideration is an EARLY, RARE and UNUSUAL large lidded jug or stein, made of thick salt-glazed stoneware
Original pewter lid, hinged and with a globular finial (thumb piece)
Ovoid form
Attached handle, shaped spout
Scratched (Sgraffito) ornamentation all around the body in repeating linear and dot patterns (scarce and quite uncommon Folk Art embellishments)
A cobalt blue handwritten "2" marking near the handle, indicating the capacity - 2 Liters
All original, mid/late 1700's. Westerwald, Germany
