Description
Pair of 2 Antique Beautiful German Steins with Men / Monks Drinking Beer in PubUp for auction are two beautiful German beer steins. The bigger one measures almost 12 inches tall and has 1-Liter capacity. It was made by the Reinhold Hanke's factory during the time period of late 19th to early 20th century. The smaller one has 1/2-Liter capacity. I couldn't find the manufacturer on this one. They are both hand-painted with great details, vibrant and contrasting colors.
As you can see on pictures, the relief on these steins is a thick, crisp wrap-around design with a raised scene of three men drinking from beer steins and using a barrel for a table in a tavern or pub.
The curious thing about these two steins is that the scene painted on both is attributable to Edward Von Grützner’s (German painter, 1846-1925), and has been used in many other German steins during time. These antique German steins have bright colors with decorative bands on top and bottom of the main image. The glazes are deep, really a great example of German craftsmanship.
The only impressed marks I can find on the taller one are
"776"
on the bottom of the stein and the capacity mark "
1L.
" over the handle. The smaller one has a capacity of 1/2-Liter, but it doesn't have a mold number impressed, just marked at the bottom "
GERMANY
".
