    Description

The New York Yankees’ 3B Andy Carey Glove worn in the World Series.
This glove was handed down to me by my father, Barry. My grandfather played golf with Ford Frick, the then Commissioner of Baseball. My grandfather asked Commissioner Frick if he could send his son (my father) memorabilia in the mail, as my father was a huge baseball fan. Shortly thereafter this glove and letter from Commissioner Frick himself arrived in the mail. My father believes the glove was sent to him in 1957, and used in the 1956 World Series. While the letter itself is not clearly dated, there is a postmark with ‘19 - - ‘ as the year (pictured). The last number of the year is rounded. As a result, the authenticator dates the letter to 1958. The letter does state the glove was used in the World Series. The authenticator states the glove was likely used for many years, and likely in both the 1956 and 1957 World Series.
The letter from Commissioner Frick reads:
‘Dear Barry: Under separate cover I am sending the Yankee glove. It belonged to Andy Carey and was used by him in the World Series the previous Fall. If you care to you might drop him a line. Sincerely your friend Ford Frick’
The glove was signed by Andy Carey, along with his number 6, both located on the back strap. Both of which seemed to have faded with time.
Notably in the 1956 World Series, Don Larsen threw his perfect game in game 5.
From Wikipedia: In 1998, Larsen recalled, "I had great control. I never had that kind of control in my life." The closest the Dodgers came to a hit was in the second inning, when Jackie Robinson hit a line drive off third baseman Andy Carey's glove, the ball caroming to shortstop Gil McDougald, who threw Robinson out by a step, and in the fifth, when Mickey Mantle ran down Gil Hodges' deep fly ball.
The glove was authenicated in 2020 by the PSA/DNA Authentication team.
Included are the Glove, Authenticity paperwork, the letter from the Commissioner and the two pictured Andy Carey baseball cards.
Please message me with any questions. The glove will be sent overnight FedEx.
