    Description

It pleases me to offer this listing which is a
    MacGregor USA-made
    catcher's mitt of the great
New York Yankee catcher Bill Dickey
, who not only was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1954, but also had his No. 8 uniform retired by the Yankees.  Bill played Major League Baseball for 19 seasons, all with the Yanks.  And in 1946 after returning to the Yanks from serving in the United States Navy during World War II, Bill was the Yankee's player-manager.  Simply put, Dickey was a great catcher.  He was named an All-Star 11 times, he played with the Yanks in the World Series nine times, winning eight world's championships.  And if that wasn't enough glory, he returned to the Yankees in 1949 to teach the one and only Yogi Berra the finer points of catching.
    A legend...that was Bill Dickey!
This is a nice, well-made glove that MacGregor put out honoring Bill Dickey.  I wish I knew what year MacGregor made this glove, but with Bill playing in three different decades for the Yankees, I just don't know.  I guess someone who specializes in MacGregor gloves would have to tell me.  This glove has good leather, good tight lacing along all the eyelets, just has a
    wonderful overall appearance
.  If one wants to get picky, the only flaw I can see in the glove the viewer can see if he/she closely examines the above photos # 4, 7, and 11, which all show the outside of the glove.  By the pocket, there are two eyelets on each side that is missing a leather strap.  It appears the pocket is plenty secure without those small pieces of leather, but I guess with fastballs being thrown, the glove could stand to have those two pieces attached.  But other than that, the glove is very attractive.
OK, let me say this, my reason for selling this glove, and all the other gloves I have been selling, (Bench, Musial, Schoendienst, etc.), I am doing so because of one reason, and one reason only...I am  approaching 80 years of age, I have  had a few health issues recently, and my wife knows absolutely nothing about my sports memorabilia hobby.  For all she knows, Bill Dickey's teammates could have been Doak Walker and Pete Maravich.  Therefore, it behooves me to move these what I refer to as "treasures", because I would cringe and come back and haunt her if something happened to me and she packed up all this what she refers to as "stuff", and carried it to the nearest Goodwill store.  I'm fortunate enough not to have to depend on my memorabilia to earn a living or anything like that.  But if you are (1) a collector, and, (2) happen to be a Yankee fan, get yourself a Bill Dickey glove.  I don't care if you get mine or not, but get yourself one, because chances are you are too young to know how truly great Bill Dickey was.  For Bill to have had his No. 8 uniform retired, with all the greats that the Yankees have been blessed with throughout the years, that ought to give yourself a big clue.
Thank you for viewing my EBAY auction item.  (Please note:  I do
    not
    ship internationally.)  God bless.
