Antique Large Mettlach German Beer Stein by Villeroy and Boch,"Drinker with the owner of Zur Linde."
Renaissance style drinkers in costumes with slashed sleeves and trousers drinking with the owner of the Inn.
Pottery etched, inlaid lid.
SIZE: 15" High and 6.5" wide at handle.

NOTE: “Drinker with the Owner of Zur Linde”
The text on this stein is the concluding portion of the first verse from the poem “Die Lindenwirtin”, written by Rudolph Baumbach in 1876 and set to music in 1878 by Franz Wilhelm Abt.
The poem honors Ännchen Schumacher (1860-1935), perhaps the most famous innkeeper in German history and a popular figure with German students. Text:
“Angetan hat’s mir dein Wein, deiner Äuglein heller Schein, Lindenwirtin du Junge!” (Smitten am I with your wine,
and your eyes’ bright shine, Linden hostess so young!)
CONDITION: Please see photos, no cracks, no chips. Some scuffing (see photos) by the sitting drinkers red pant leg near the handle , (not easy to see), mentioned here for accuracy. Discoloration inside the lid. Other possible expected normal surface wear, please see photos.
