0s fall into the "early" category - they are quite rare, at that time, before the industrial revolution, the production was all manual. Every stein made in the early period was unique, decorated by hand, and rarely replicated.
Classical conical shape with a spout - the Germans call it "Kanne".
This type of beer servers was made in the German South and Austria. They are very traditional for the South of Germany vessels that were manufactured from the mid-1600s till the 1900s. The stein features typical for the 1700s - early 1800s hollow ball type thumblift and five rings closed type hinge.
The handle is marked with pewter hallmarks that belonged to Johann Peter Nikolaus Kilian - a master pewterer in the town of Mergentheim. He was active since 1745 till the late 1770s. The upper mark is the town mark showing the Coat-of-Arms of the town of Morgentheim and lower mark is the master pewterer's mark. I have provided a scan from the German pewter marks catalog by E.Hintze.
The stein is in a good condition. There are some many dings and scratches unavoidable in the soft pewter item this old, but no breaks, tears, or repairs.
It is 13" tall to the top of the thumblift, 1.5L capacity.
Please note - this is a real beer drinking vessel over 250 years old, not a copy or fake. The stein was made in the period of 1745 - 1770s. I guarantee my dating.
