In beer stein collecting tradition stein made before 1850 are falling into the "early" category. The year 1850 is a virtual line between hand made pre-industrial stein making and industrial production of the second half of the 19th century. Of course, some industrialized productions existed even before 1850 and hand-made shops were active almost to the end of the 19th century. But 1850 is still considered as a turning point.
The pouring stein/pitcher was made in Belgium - more precisely in Brussels. It is made from clay (earthenware) and glazed with white tin glaze - this material is called "faience" in many languages. It was decorated by one of the factory decorators who created a the magenta sponge-made background with hand-painted flowers in medallions.
The Brussels faience production was small but significant - there were several faience making shops in Brussels in the late 1700s - early 1800s of which the most important were Stevens family shop and Artoisenet family shop. This pitcher most likely was made by Mathieu Stevens in around 1820s. The lid is pewter with the specific Belgium hinge and scallope-shape thumblift. It is stamped with initials "J.B.C." - I am not sure if these are the original owner's initials or the pewterer's hallmark.

I have provided a picture of a very similar Stevens made pitcher from a book on Belgium faience for comparison.
The pitcher is in a very good condition with some chipping on the bottom rim and some old pewter repair to the lid. The body has no lines, breaks or major chips.
It is 11.5" tall to the top of the thumblift,
