Description
GOLDSMITH Catchers Glove Mitt Model 181 1925 EX+/Mint ConditionHere is a wonderful example of Goldsmith’s most economical catchers mitt, in 1925. It is a
perfect companion
to the Elkskin/Suede Catchers glove that I have listed. This beautiful little glove retailed for $ 0.75, at a time when the Chief Meyers top-of-the-line catchers glove cost .00. Until I conducted more extensive research on this glove, I thought it to be
salesman sample
. It may have been both but it was offered for sale by Goldsmith.
The
Model 181
is a called a
“Leather Front Khaki Back - Boys Size.”
It is a
‘pillow-style’ glove
that measures 8.5" across and 8.0" top to bottom, approximately. A two tone leather combination with the khaki ‘canvas. The
condition is simply outstanding in every respect
: very good stamping of the Goldsmith name, logo with the 181 being ‘readable’; silver left in the Goldsmith and logo; leather is soft and supple; some soiling and abrasion to the rear of the glove which obviously doesn’t detract from the display quality; there is a little ink behind the thumb; a small, crease tear exists in the heart of the pocket from the leather having been ‘folded ‘ there for many years (not visible when displayed); and the ‘canvas’ piping is in remarkable condition. Unlikely that a better example exists of a glove like this !
The stand is NOT included.
