    Description

German Porcelain Beer Stein Student Studentica Borussia Zirkel w/Lithophane c.1880s
    Description:
This beer stein belongs to the "studentica" family of German beer vessels.
It was made as a usual "Studentica" beer stein with a very ornate Coat-of-Arms and Zirkel - in this case the symbol of the Student Corps Borussia. "Borussia" means "Prussia" in Latin - this was (and still is) one of the oldest and largest Student Societies in Germany. A chapters of the Borussia Corps is present in most of German universities.
The text at the top reads:
"Stammtisch der Bautechnicker" - "Meeting of civil engineers".
    The text below says:
"Wissenschaft sei's Painer!" - "Science is our banner!"
The stein was made of hard paste porcelain in the 1880s - early 1890s. There is a lithophane in the bottom showing a dancing pair. There is a word "Nulpe" in the back under the handle. Most likely it's the name of the decorator.
It is in excellent condition - there is no chips or cracks. The lid is sitting tight and has no dents. The stein is 9.5" tall to the top of the finial, 0.5L capacity. I guarantee my description and dating!
