    Description

I should never have gotten this I know so little about tankards or steins, in past week I have learnt some more but still am not comfortable enough to say for certain who made this or how old it is. is Faience Tankard 8 3/4" tall to top of thumbpiece and 4 1/2" dia. believe it is hand thrown, the pewter lid has a medallion in center which has writing I cannot read and 1774 and pictures 2 men on horseback sorta like knights touching hands no swords, and underside of that medallion has more writing I cannot read refer to photos. the handle is D shaped with flat inside rounded outside. it has burgundy spatterware or tigerware and blue delft design hand painted not precise with insects ants maybe above the center design. the painting of the design is pretty off with one side of same design having darker paint then the other. it has one chip on bottom of base and a couple small ones along the rim of top. on bottom is a a blue ink mark can't quite make out under the glaze  and K A  in red over the glaze I believe. the pewter lid has scalloped edge and seems a little short to me. my basic thought is Hannover Munden. was even considering Konig reproduction.it is a straight side fat tankard.
