Description
Item:Imperial Germany ceramic full-color lidded beer stein on a flat foot with a fancy pewter lid by Dumler & Breiden (D&B). This two liters stein (2 L) was molded in deep relief and painted to include a central portrait of Charlemagne flanked by another of Julius Caesar and a third of Alexander the Great. See number 62 engraved in its bottom side corresponding I understand with a related D & B’s catalog identifying the given beer stein in the manner of Charlemagne, Caesar and Alexander. It has an ornate pewter lid with a stylized thumb lift.
A certain Frank Loevi wrote in a collector’s guide that its manufacturer, D & B, was founded in Westerwald in 1883 and named after Peter Dumler and Albert Breiden. This particular model design is attributed to Dumler. It is said to have reflected upon his imagination and artistry inspired by the eminence of the German Empire (1871-1918).
