Elaborately Decorated Pewter Mounted Cranberry Glass Beer Stein, c. 1803

This listing is for a unique German beer stein with a cranberry glass body cased with intricately pierced decorated pewter mount, c. 1903. The glass insert has a rich cranberry coloration and has internal ribs similar to those found of many pieces of Moser glass from this period. The pewter holder is elaborately decorated with pierced designs in bands around the perimeter of the glass with a pewter base, handle and lid. The design features a floral design in the first two bands, a standing female with open arms alternating with an urn of flowers in the wide center band with the lower band decorated with dragons. Stein has a dome lid with pierced design of foliage over cranberry glass stopped with an urn type finial and has a wide lower border that is engraved by hand "M N B" and "1803". The pewter handle has a nice curved shape with embossed decorated thumb hold. The hinge is tight and the lid opens and closes correctly.
Measures  9 3/4" high (to top of finial), 6 1/2" high (to top of glass insert) with an overall width of about 6 1/2" and a 3" diameter top. Weighs 2.9 pounds.
The glass interior is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws. The pewter mounting is in great condition also with the only noted flaw being a the top of the thumbhold is broken (not initially noticed as I missed it when I made the purchase). There is also a nick in the pewter on the bottom foot ring.
