Antique Mettlach 1/2L German Beer Stein #1396 "Playing Cards" Mint 1890

Description

An antique 1/2L German beer stein mold #1395 by Villeroy and Boch, made in Mettlach, Germany depicting “French Playing Cards”. The German wording on the stein translates to “Whether you have a loss or a win, accept both with lightheartedness.”
Instead of the traditional pottery inlay lid, this has a special presentation silver-plated lid, probably by WMF, with engraved initials in script in the center. The pewter thumb lift is a woman’s head with headdress.
The stein measures 8” tall to the top of the thumb lift and is in mint condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines oder pewter or silver damage, but the silver-plate has tarnish both inside and out, and would benefit from being polished. The stein bears the date code “90” on the bottom for the year 1890.
