    Description

Antique Green Glass German Beer Stein With High Raised Enamel by A.Egermann c.1880s
    Description:
This very interesting antique German beer stein was made in around the 1880s, of blown green glass  with inlaid pewter lid and applied handle. It was hand-blown and shaped in a slightly tapered form with an extended base. This gives a wonderful optical effect unfortunately not very visible on my picture.
It was decorated with high-raised enamel armorial bearing (or Coat-of-Arms) with two keys crossed, and floral elements creating almost sculptural decorations. The stein is not signed but the style is quite similar to the work of Anton Ambrose Egermann (1814 - 1888) - one of the most famous glass decorators in Haida, Bohemia. The crossed keys symbol is present on several coats-of-arms, including even Vatican. This ones are more similar to the crossed keys of the Dutch city of Leiden.
The stein's body is in excellent mint condition. The lid's inlay has a crack across (see pic.). It is  a smaller stein of 0.3 L capacity, 6.25" tall to the top of the finial.
