    Description

    The stein depicted in this auction was possibly made by the Merkelbach & Wick firm or Hauber & Reuther firm from Germany.  The stein is pottery & transfer.  The size is 0.3 L with a pewter lid & very nice finial and thumb. The form number is 486.  The stein is in full color and is called hunter looking at some type of bottle.  This comment is from the Beer Stein Library.
    In all likelihood the steins were made and decorated by Merkelbach & Wick. However, I currently have no way to confirm that judgement. Since M&W manufactured all of the steins in the HR 400 series, there’s a slight chance that your 468s passed through Freising on their way to the marketplace, but without HR markings it’s a long shot at best.
