    Description

Antique Early German Faience Beer Stein Erfurt Thueringen c.1700s Oriental Lady
    Description:
Presented is a very impressive and beautiful old German beer stein manufactured in the region of Thueringia - an old German state located in central Germany around late 1700s. More specifically, this stein was attributed to Erfurt, the capital of Thuringia.
Made of faience with very colorful hand-painted decorations that traditionally are associated with Tueringen factories. The decorations consist of a lovely genre scene depicting a lady with a fan. She look Chinese or just oriental - many of the Thuringen faience decorations shows oriental motifs as a tendency to replicate expensive Chinese and Japanese porcelain.
Nice pewter lid with a large hollow ball for the thumblift.
The body of the stein is in a fair condition - there are several hairlines and a body repair. They don't actually very visible on the exterior so the appearance is quite good.
This is a relatively good condition for a beer stein that is over 200 years old - and with an interesting subject matter!
It is 10" tall to the top of the thumblift, 1L capacity.
