Description
Here is a vintage 1960's Wilson Paul Richards Personal Model A2530 baseball catchers mitt or glove for a RH thrower. The mitt is adult sized and measures 11" long through the pocket and 12" wide. Stamped on the front of the glove (a little faint in places) is Wilson, Made in USA, A2530, Air Lite Model, Split-Lock web, Grip-Tite Pocket, Snap Action, Paul Richards Personal Model. There is a decent Wilson patch on the back. Stamped on the back are Made in USA, Nylon Stitched, Streamlined Fingers, Pat. No. 2,2231204 and Canada 398,340-1941. The mitt measures 11" long through the palm and measures 12" straight across. It measures 34 1/2" around. Per the Wilson catalog information I couldn't find this model number mitt listed, but other mitt models with his name were made between 1964 to 1966. The mitt weighs 1 pound 3 ounces. It's a bit unusual to have this mitt made so long after his playing career and even after the bulk of his managing career, but here it is.
It looks like there is a very faint name of the back of the thumb out toward the edge. Not very noticeable. The stamping on the mitt is light in places due to use, but still readable. The lacing appears original and intact. The leather piping is soft and nice. The mitt has a Snap Action break at the bottom, but the break was never broken in to use, so the mitt is flat still to this day even though it shows a fair amount of use. Soft leather inside and out. Smooth interior leather and soft. The only chafing on the interior leather is up where the fingers end up when used. It's light, but you can feel it. No chafing where the palm sits. Nice original Wilson USA patch on the back. Wool padding on the bottom on the backstrap is still there but kind of squished flat.
Paul Richards played in the Majors from 1933-1946 and later was a manager from 1954-1961 and once again in 1976. He played for the Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Giants, Philadelphia A's and Detroit Tigers. He managed the Chicago White Sox and the Baltimore Orioles.
I have other gloves and mitts on eBay ending now and I like to combine shipping whenever possible. If you win more than one glove you'll have to pay the grand total for shipping. But I'll refund you the difference back on the price of combined shipping. Or I'll send out an invoice if possible.
