  • Condition: Nice and quality vintage glove. A prior owner lightly etched the initials G.A. in the middle of the web (on the back) and also just to the right of the patch on the backstrap. There also is some very light writing on the back of the thumb. Leather lacing looks original and appears intact. Soft leather inside and out. Nice soft interior leather with some chafing on left side in the palm area and some lighter chafing in the open area between the bottom of the fingers and the backstrap. Broken in. Very nice vintage 1950's red Rawlings patch on it.

    Description

    Here is a vintage 1950's Rawlings Eddie Mathews endorsed Model HG 98 baseball glove for a Right Handed thrower and thus fits on the left hand. Mathews was a right handed thrower and mainly played 3rd base.  Made in the USA. The glove is an adult size glove and it measures 10.5" long through the pocket. This glove is pretty similar to the model EM glove Rawlings made in the late 1950's and this model number is a bit rare and not listed in the catalog info I have.  The glove has soft leather inside and out. Deep Well Pocket by web, Eddie Mathews, Personal Model, Major League, Rawlings, HG98, Anchored Web, Pat. No. 2,629,096, Snugger Adjustment and Adjustable Floating Heel are all stamped on the glove. Also 3 more patent numbers on the back of the pinky finger. There is a very nice original Rawlings patch sewn on the backstrap.

    Eddie Mathews of course is a Major League Hall of Famer after a great career from 1952 - 1968 with the Braves (Boston 1952), Milwaukee (1953-1965) and Atlanta (1966). He finished playing for the Houston Astros 1967 and the Detroit Tigers in 1967-1968. He was on 2 World Series winning teams in 1957 with the Milwaukee Braves and in 1968 with the Detroit Tigers. He hit a career 512 home runs and was a 12 time All-Star.
