Here is a vintage 1950's era Spalding Al Dark model 1097 baseball glove for a RH thrower. Also included in the auction is a rare baseball glove box label for the same model. There is a very nice Spalding cloth patch on the backstrap and a nice brass Spalding button imprinted in red. The glove is probably a youth size glove (high school) but my adult hand fits in it OK. If you have an empty glove box without a label on it, maybe this will work for you. The label measures 4" tall by 6 1/4" wide.Nice soft leather on the inside and outside leather. The interior leather is soft with no real chafing but some sweat staining on it. A prior owner wrote their name on the underside of the backstrap, so it usually is not noticed. The leather piping is intact and overall nice with just a little wear noted. The Spalding patch is very nice. The leather lacing is intact and original. Nice shiny Spalding brass button on the back. The label has wear on both ends with some small part of the paper gone and here is a light tear in the middle at the top, which is torn for 1/3" and then goes into a crease. Staining on the bottom right side and there is a price tag sticker which has nothing written on it. It appears the sticker covers up a written 9.95 price. But the paper label does not show any glue residue, so it appears it wasn't put on a box. Which is a bit confusing.
Alvin or Al Dark played in 1946 and 1948-1960 as a shortstop and 3rd baseman. His best years were for the Boston Braves and the New York Giants. He also played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies and the Milwaukee Brewers. He was the American League Rookie of the Year (ROY) in 1948 with the Braves and was on the World Series Champions 1954 New York Giants team. He was also a 3 time All-Star.
I have other gloves and mitts on eBay ending now and I like to combine shipping whenever possible. If you win more than one glove you'll have to pay the grand total for shipping. But I'll refund you the difference back on the price of combined shipping. Or I'll send out an invoice if possible.
