Here is a vintage 1920's era Spalding model DW baseball first baseman's mitt or glove for a right handed thrower, meaning it fits on the left hand. The glove appears to be a youth glove even though is it made pretty well. It measures 9" long through the pocket and 9.5" wide straight across. It weighs 11 ounces. Nice soft white leather inside and out. Made in USA. It has a cool looking Spalding reddish/brown patch with a light gold writingon the back thumb. The glove is probably a youth size glove and I can get my adult hand in it, but it's pretty tight at the backstrap. I'm sure many adults couldn't get their hand in it. There weren't very many Mantle endorsed first baseman mitts made as he only went to 1B later in his career when his knees got so bad he couldn't play outfield very well. The white leather has darkened some over the years as you can see. There is a little scuffing on some of the leather on the front pinky finger side (lower down).Writing on bottom of backstrap. The Spalding patch on the back is really nice. There are a few small paint specs here & there on both sides of the mitt, but you have to be fairly close to notice. Stamping is light on the front and I can't make it all out. I'm thinking the model # is DW, but I can't find that model number in the catalogs. But the other ones that start with D don't look like this one. There is a stain on the front catching area that you can see. I can make out most of the Spalding logo at the top & only part of the circular logo a couple inches lower. I think above that lower logo it says Genuine Horsehide, but again I can't read it all. The leather is soft on the outside and the inside. Lacing is intact and original. Neat looking green soft vinyl covered cloth piping is pretty nice but shows wear here. Some of piping is glued where stitching gone. 3 small slits in the leather in the middle of the palm (below the logo). They don't seem to go thru leather. Longest is 5/16".
I have other gloves and mitts on eBay ending now and I like to combine shipping whenever possible. If you win more than one glove you'll have to pay the grand total for shipping. But I'll refund you the difference back on the price of combined shipping. Or I'll send out an invoice if possible.
